1951: Fiberglass was just a glimmer in the eye of some chemist. Miller’s Landing is open for business in the “heart of the Inland Empire” at the corner of Monterey and Garey Avenues in Pomona. Anybody want to buy a Galaxy boat? We have some.
Mid-1950s: I guess somebody liked those Galaxies. Miller’s Landing needs more space and moves across the street to a vacant building. Obviously, Pomona needed one less tire store.
Late 1950s: Wow….look at all the selection of new models! Miller’s Landing has become a boating super store filled with fishing boats, family runabouts, cruisers and more.
1960s: Life is good in the boating business. Volvo, MerCruiser and OMC all come out with something called an I/O. Wonder if it will catch-on? Miller’s Landing puts some in their showroom to see what happens.
Early 1970s: Uh oh! First national energy crisis hits the country. Having to search for an open gasoline station is a pain to fill up your car and boat. What does your license plate read….odd or even?
Mid 1970s: Things kinda getting back to normal. Nixon resigns the Presidency over Watergate, but boating is back on track. Look at those new V-6 200 HP outboards we have in stock. Who ever thought we’d see something that big.
Late 1970s: Another bump in the road. Thought this gas crunch stuff was gone, but guess not. Boating is in a slump but Miller’s Landing makes it through okay.
Mid 1980s: Miller’s Landing is sold to a new owner, Bill Haegy and it’s time to move again to bigger digs. Miller’s Landing is still the top dealer in the Inland Empire. Our new place at Foothill Blvd. and Towne Avenue is great. Love those new Wellcraft models. We can’t keep them in stock. Business is good.
Late 1990s: Time for another change. Bill Haegy says he’s ready to move on and Miller’s Landing is sold to another family owned business, Silletto Investment Corporation. Family member Jim Campbell steps in to run the place.
2001: Business is again looking up. The new owners also own a Lincoln/Mercury/Mazda dealership at the corner of Central and Holt in Montclair. Silletto chooses boats over cars and moves Miller’s Landing into the giant 3-1/2 acre auto dealership location, its current location today.
Mid 2000s: Jeff Jones, works his way up from the parts department and becomes Miller’s Landing new General Manager. And check out our 24-bay service department. We have the largest in-house marine service/repair facility in Southern California. And customers love the new models from Rinker and Sea Swirl.
2008: Jones leaves Miller’s Landing to go to work with Brunswick Corporation/Mercury Marine. The boating industry is now feeling the pinch of a major national economic downturn.
2011: Silletto Investment Corporation decides it needs a more “hands-on” approach to running Miller’s Landing. Family member Jim Campbell returns to take the helm. Happy anniversary Miller’s Landing, you’re now 60 years young, the oldest continuous operating marine dealership in Southern California. Hey, take a look at our new Monterey and Larson model lines.
